What To Expect Right After Getting Invisalign
It's going to feel snug. New Invisalign or clear aligners might feel a bit tight when you first put them in. This is a good sign, as it means they're working to gently move your teeth. The tightness usually subsides within a day or two.
A minor lisp can occur when you first start wearing Invisalign. This is because your tongue needs to adjust to the presence of the aligners. Practice talking normally (like reading out loud), and the lisp should disappear within a few a day or two.
What To Expect Right After Getting Braces
New braces can cause some initial discomfort or tenderness, especially around the lips and cheeks. Over-the-counter pain relievers and a soft diet for a few days can help.
The initial placement of braces can increase salivary flow for the first 1-2 days as the mouth thinks it's food. As your mouth adapts to the constant presence of braces on the teeth, saliva production will revert back to normal.
Eating might feel a bit awkward with braces at first. Sticking to softer foods for the first few days allows your mouth to adjust. You'll gradually be able to incorporate more solid foods back into your diet.
Tips for a Smooth Adjustment After Getting Invisalign or Braces
- Remember, these adjustments are temporary! Your mouth will adapt to braces or Invisalign within a short period.
- Over-the-counter pain relievers can help manage any initial discomfort with braces.
- Sticking to softer foods for the first few days allows your mouth to adjust more easily.
- If you experience a lisp with Invisalign, practice talking as usual, and it should resolve quickly.
- We're Here for You! If you have any questions or concerns about adjustments, don't hesitate to contact our friendly team at O'Brien Orthodontics in Beavercreek and Englewood.
